From primary to high school, the ISB Art History Channel offers engaging and grade-level appropriate videos on art history, the development of art skills, and understanding what artists do. Made to accompany a wide range of thematic projects, these videos are the products of a collaboration of art teachers from all over the world.
Olivia Gude’s Postmodern Principles are the inspiration for the videos in this series. The seven videos in this series address topics on appropriation, text and image, and performance art among others. They are intended for advanced high school art courses.
Quick Tips are short videos that provide students with advice on different art making techniques from making a collage to cleaning out paint brushes.
The 3-Minute Movement series focuses on introducing a wide range of artists that participated in over thirty-six different movements from modern and contemporary art. They are appropriate for high school art courses.
Discovering Art videos support students in thinking like artists. Besides an introduction to Harvard’s Studio Habits of Mind, other videos help students to find the meaning in art using Dr. Renee Sandell’s Form, Theme, and Context approach. Developing art language and analytic thinking is a key component of this series.
MUSE videos put topics from art history into language that middle school students can easily understand. They include a lot of Dad jokes to help students stay engaged.
The eleven videos in this series were made to accompany projects on topics such as DADA, Identity, Portraits and Culture, Narrative and seven other topics that are designed to engage high school in authentic artistic thinking.
PRIMARilY Art History videos introduce artists that work with subjects of interest to elementary school students such as masks, animals, the circus, and the four seasons.
The Have you heard about… videos introduce various genres in art making.
Narrated by animated characters Vinnie, Yue and Jack, Learn SmARTer videos are designed to help students approach studying art more efficiently including research and developing their art projects.
Ism~ographies are longer form videos that cover some important art styles with more depth than the 3-minute Movement series. Cubism, Surrealism, Non-objective Art and Architecture make up the current playlist.
Artspeak videos help illustrate some common art terms like mood, style, and theme in art.
For sixteen of his over thirty years in education, Brian Reverman taught high school and middle school art at the International School of Beijing, The American School of Bombay, and the Casablanca American School. He is currently the Artist-in-Residence at HKUGA College in Hong Kong.
