Brian's Bio

I’ve taught art in international schools for close to 30 years, with stops in Beijing, Mumbai, Casablanca, and Hong Kong. For most of my career I’ve been developing and delivering curriculum that focuses on developing creative behavior and critical thinking.

That’s what led me to create the ISB Art History Channel, a YouTube library of more than 65 videos made with art teachers from around the world. The videos cover a lot of ground, from postmodern art theory to Studio Habits of Mind to quick technique demos, and they’re designed so that students anywhere from kindergarten to grade 12 can find a real entry point into art history in an engaging way.

I’ve also developed the Art-o-matic and Art-o-matic Mini, digital annotation tools that get students to stop describing artworks and start analyzing them. The writing students produce with these tools can move directly into an essay or an IB Connections Study.

All theĀ  materials found on mountains.brianreverman.com, including thematic units for middle and high school, IB Visual Arts projects, and the writing tools, have been used with actual students in actual classrooms, some of it for years.

I’m currently writing on curriculum design, assessment, and AI in the art classroom, and travel as a visiting artist and PD consultant for international schools.
